JAM
It?s not about how much you can talk, its all about not letting anyone else talk. It?s a battle of words wherein there?s only one topic, many contenders and all you gotta do is JAM them.
Event Structure
- There will not be any preliminary extempore. The registration is on the spot.
- All the participants will be arbitrarily divided in groups of five and then they will have to speak on the topic given with certain rules (specified in the next section)
- 1 winner will be chosen from each group and then all winners will again be contested and so on till we get 1 winner.
- And we will like to have this last round a little bit different than other rounds. Instead of having only debate round, in final round we will have debate as well as spell round. The participants will be given words to spell. The ones who can spell the maximum no. of words correctly in a minute go to the grand finale round of JAM. The final winner will then be decided by debate as in the previous rounds.
Rules
- Every contestant will have to speak on the given topic for 1 minute. If he/she commits any of the following errors (repetition, stammering, grammatical error, deviation) the first person to spot the error will be given the opportunity to speak.
- "Repetition”: means not repeating a particular idea or concept. The repetition of certain common words is allowed but not keywords.
- "Hesitation": even a momentary pause before resumption of the subject can give rise to a successful challenge.
- “Grammatical Error”: Any error in sentence formation or other grammatical errors.
- "Deviation" means not only deviating too far from the subject but also deviating from the truth, and sometimes even logic.
- These deviations are given a preferential order i.e. Deviation> Repetition > Grammatical error > Hesitation. It means if 2 contestants find a mistake with the speaker who gets to speak is decided based on this order.
- Contestant gets points to spot the error: Deviation = 25 points, Repetition = 20 points, Grammatical Error = 15 points, Hesitation = 10 points.
- Each player will be given 0 points to start with.
- If the judges don’t find the objection legitimate, points as stated above will be subtracted from the contestants score.
- For the final round, a round where contestants have to spell words is added. The contestant who can spell the maximum no. of words correctly in a minute will be the winner of the spelling round.
- The contestant with the max. no. of points at the end is the winner of JAM.
- The decision of the judges will be final and binding under any circumstances.
